Southern Iran, Feb 18: A 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck southern Iran today, rattling the region at a shallow depth of 10 km, according to the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ).
The epicenter was located at approximately 27.36 degrees north latitude and 52.60 degrees east longitude, near areas like Mohr in Hormozgan Province.
No immediate reports of casualties, damage, or injuries have emerged, consistent with past similar quakes in Iran’s seismically active south. Rescue teams were dispatched as a precaution, but the tremor appears to have caused minimal disruption.
Iran lies on major fault lines and frequently experiences earthquakes, including recent ones like a 4.6 near Kūh Sefīd earlier this month.
