Zanskar, Mar 28: The fifth edition of the Zanskar Winter Sports and Tourism Festival 2026 concluded at the Sports Stadium in Padum on Friday, bringing together athletes, students, local artists and officials for a two-day programme of snow sports, competitions and cultural performances.
Councillor for Karsha Constituency, Stanzin Jigmath, attended the closing ceremony as Chief Guest. Tehsildar Zanskar, Mohd Hassan, was present as Guest of Honour, while Station House Officer Inspector Nurboo Lonpo attended as Special Guest.
The final day of the festival featured a series of snow-based sporting activities. Participants from the Snow Ski School Zanskar demonstrated cross-country skiing, snow rally races, Sonolam and snowshoe races, drawing attention from spectators despite the prevailing winter conditions.
A snow yoga session presented by students of Government Higher Secondary School, Padum, formed part of the programme, with dignitaries also taking part. Visitors and officials further inspected snow sculptures created by local artists, showcasing craftsmanship shaped by the winter terrain.
The concluding segment included final matches of volleyball and traditional archery, which witnessed active participation and audience engagement. Cultural performances by local artists and school children followed, adding a community dimension to the closing proceedings.
Trophies and awards were distributed among winners, runners-up and participants across competitions, formally marking the end of the festival.
The administration acknowledged the coordinated efforts of various departments involved in organising the event, noting their contribution to the smooth conduct of the festival.
The Zonal Physical Education Officer, Zanskar, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing appreciation to participants, organisers and supporting staff for their cooperation in ensuring the successful completion of the event.
