Jammu, Feb 28: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has said the youth of Jammu and Kashmir are capable of overcoming every challenge and will script history if given the right opportunities, platforms, and mentorship. Speaking at the inauguration of the 2nd edition of the Sikh Cricket Premier League (SCPL) at the University of Jammu, Sinha hailed the tournament as a powerful vehicle to build character, discipline, leadership, and social harmony among the region’s youth.
The Lieutenant Governor described the new generation as “embodiments of possibility,” asserting that the future of nation‑building rests on harnessing the energy of young people. He said the SCPL, conceived by the All J&K Sikh Coordination Committee and the Hari Singh Nalwa Cricket Club, Jammu, is more than a cricket league—it is a declaration that the youth are moving from spectators to active bearers of brotherhood and inclusivity. Each team in the league includes players from different communities, reinforcing the message of unity and integration.
Sinha urged the players to train with “ferocious discipline” and compete with “unbreakable unity,” emphasising that true societal strength lies not in infrastructure alone but in fresh ideas and the dynamism of the youth. He compared the energy of the younger generation to a river that, when channelled with purpose, can become a source of progress and transformation.
The Governor said events like the SCPL should help young people see sports not as mere recreation but as a forge for life’s core values. He highlighted the historic transformation of J&K’s sports ecosystem under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, supported by the Prime Minister’s Development Programme (PMDP), which has helped create a world‑class foundation for sports excellence. He added that Union Home Minister Amit Shah has assured ₹200 crore for sports development in the Union Territory, with backing from the BCCI, FIFA, and other sports bodies.
