Cairo, Feb 28: The Iranian‑backed Houthi rebels in Yemen have decided to restart missile and drone attacks on key shipping routes in the Red Sea and on Israel, in a move aimed at supporting Iran, according to two senior Houthi officials who spoke on condition of anonymity.
The officials said the first Houthi attack could come as early as “tonight,” signaling a sharp break from the recent lull in hostilities. The group had previously halted strikes on Red Sea shipping under a deal with the Trump administration that also stopped US strikes on them, and had paused attacks on Israel following an October ceasefire that ended major fighting in Gaza.
The resumption of assaults raises fresh concerns for global maritime security and the fragile stability in the wider Middle East, as the Iran–Israel–US standoff escalates into a broader regional confrontation.
