Women ‘Backstabbed’ by Opposition, Says BJP Spokesperson R. P. Singh

Leh, April 19 : National BJP Spokesperson and former MLA Delhi, Shri R. P. Singh, today addressed a press conference at the BJP Office in Leh, strongly criticising the Opposition over its stance on the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam. He stated that the women of India have been “backstabbed” by Opposition parties during recent parliamentary proceedings.

Shri R. P. Singh was accompanied by Former Chief Executive Councillor Adv. Tashi Gyalson, State General Secretary, P. T. Kunzang, Chief Spokesperson, Nawang Samstan, State Vice President, Gyal P. Wangyal, Former Minority Commission Member Rinchen Lamo, State Vice President Phuntsog Angmo, General Secretary Mahila Morcha Stanzin Norzom, Chuskit, and other senior party leaders.

Addressing the media, Shri Singh said he was in Leh to discuss the developments in Parliament concerning the Nari Shakt Vandan Adhiniyam. He congratulated Adv. Tashi Gyaltson and the Hill Council for successfully passing a resolution ensuring 33% reservation for women. He further stated that this reservation will be implemented in the upcoming Hill Council elections and will also be extended across states.
Referring to the parliamentary discussions held on April 16 and 17 on the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, the Delimitation Bill, and the Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill, Shri Singh described them as a historic opportunity linked to the democratic future of the country and women’s participation in governance.

However, he alleged that the conduct of the Opposition during these proceedings reflected an anti-women mindset. He said that it was not just legislative proposals that failed in the House, but that major Opposition parties had “fallen permanently in the eyes of half the population of the country.”

The BJP strongly condemned what it termed as “shameful, undemocratic and anti-women behaviour” displayed by the Opposition alliance during the sessions. Shri Singh asserted that these parties had not merely opposed constitutional and delimitation-related Bills but had betrayed the aspirations of millions of women across the country.

He further stated that while Opposition parties had earlier supported the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam due to electoral pressures, their resistance at a crucial stage exposed their lack of genuine commitment toward women’s empowerment.

Highlighting the linkage between delimitation and the implementation of the Act, Shri Singh said that any delay in delimitation would directly delay the benefits of reservation for women. He reaffirmed that the government remains committed to ensuring that women receive their rightful representation.

Shri Singh concluded by stating that the government would continue to fight against what he described as anti-women forces and expressed confidence that women across India would respond decisively through the power of their vote in the times ahead.
