Zanskar, Apr 24: A weekly outreach camp under the Khidmat-e-Awaam initiative was organised at Tungri Panchayat in Zanskar, bringing a range of government services directly to residents while also serving as a platform for the redressal of local grievances.
Held under the directions of the Deputy Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (Kargil), and supervised by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Zanskar, the camp saw coordinated participation from multiple departments aimed at enhancing public access to welfare schemes.
Officials from the Revenue Department issued Scheduled Tribe certificates, Land Revenue Certificates and carried out ration card verifications. Simultaneously, the Health Department conducted medical screenings and facilitated the generation of health cards for beneficiaries.
Representatives from departments including Integrated Child Development Services, Agriculture, Rural Development, Animal Husbandry, Handicrafts, Tourism and Social Welfare, along with banking institutions, disseminated information on various schemes and registered eligible individuals on the spot.
Essential services such as Aadhaar enrolment, registration under the PM-KISAN scheme, insurance coverage enrolments and homestay registrations were also provided during the camp, reflecting a concerted push to improve last-mile delivery.
Residents utilised the opportunity to highlight pressing concerns, including inadequate road connectivity, irrigation challenges, drinking water shortages, malfunctioning submersible pumps and the need for improved infrastructure. Officials conducted site visits in response and assured timely intervention.
The outreach programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks, with officials underscoring the importance of such camps in strengthening administrative outreach and ensuring that governance remains accessible to remote communities.
