Leh: In a collective effort to promote cleanliness and environmental responsibility, nearly 100 residents of Nimo organized a day-long cleanliness drive along the shortcut road leading to the Nimo Gurudwara.
During the drive, the villagers were shocked to find large amounts of garbage scattered along the entire stretch of the road, reportedly left behind by commuters and passers-by over time. Participants said it took almost the whole day for volunteers to clear the accumulated waste from the roadside.
Local residents expressed concern over the increasing littering in the area and said the situation highlighted the urgent need for greater public awareness and responsibility.
Through the initiative, the villagers have appealed to everyone traveling on the route to refrain from throwing garbage along the road. To facilitate proper waste disposal, dustbins are being installed at several points along the roadside for public use.
The residents emphasized that maintaining a clean environment is a shared responsibility and urged people to act responsibly rather than expecting others to clean up the litter.
Villagers said that with collective efforts and cooperation from the public, the area can remain neat and clean, helping preserve the natural beauty of Nimo and its surroundings. They called upon commuters and visitors alike to support the initiative and help keep the village clean and environmentally friendly.
