Leh, Aug 22: “The Indian Army remains steadfast in its commitment to the welfare of its veterans and their families,” affirmed Lt Gen Hitesh Bhalla, UYSM, SC**, SM, VSM, General Officer Commanding, Fire and Fury Corps, while inaugurating the Veterans Rally and Pension Adalat at the Rinchen Auditorium, Leh, on Friday.
The rally, organised by the Leh Sub Area on behalf of Fire and Fury Corps, brought together more than 1,500 veterans, war heroes and Veer Naris from the far-flung reaches of Ladakh. Senior military commanders and civilian dignitaries graced the occasion, lending weight to an event that blended gratitude with practical support for the armed forces fraternity.
Lt Gen Bhalla personally felicitated gallantry award winners and Veer Naris, a gesture that evoked deep emotions across the gathering. A series of awareness stalls were set up to inform veterans and their families about various welfare schemes extended by the Army, the Union Government and the Union Territory administration of Ladakh.
The Pension Adalat, a key feature of the event, enabled ex-servicemen to register grievances directly with officials from the Principal Controller of Defence Accounts, Defence Pension Disbursing Office Leh, representatives of the SPARSH pension system and the Army Welfare Placement Organisation. Many long-pending issues were addressed on the spot, providing reassurance to those in attendance.
The rally was not confined to paperwork and redressal alone. Medical and dental check-ups, ECHS card registration, and opportunities to interact with local banks were also made available, turning the venue into a comprehensive support centre for the veteran community.
For the participants, the event offered more than administrative relief. It was an occasion to reunite, reminisce and experience the enduring respect the Army extends to its extended family. The overwhelming turnout underscored the importance of such initiatives, as veterans hailed the Indian Army for bringing military and civil agencies together under one roof.
As the day drew to a close, the atmosphere resonated with a sense of gratitude and pride, reaffirming that the bond between the Army and its veterans continues to remain unbroken in the land of high passes.
