Sankoo, Oct 08: Prof. Saket Kushwaha, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ladakh, visited the Government Degree College Kargil, Sankoo Campus on Wednesday to assess academic progress and engage in discussions with faculty and students on key institutional issues.
The visit included an interactive session aimed at reviewing ongoing initiatives and addressing matters highlighted in a memorandum presented by both faculty and student representatives. The Vice-Chancellor received a warm traditional welcome, greeted with Khataqs and a hand-embroidered artwork created by students of the college’s Hand Embroidery Skill Course as a mark of respect and appreciation.
Dr. Saleem Ahmad, Nodal Officer of Sankoo Campus, delivered the formal welcome address, expressing gratitude for Prof. Kushwaha’s guidance and support, while Dr. Azra Khatoon, Assistant Professor, moderated the proceedings.
During his address, the Vice-Chancellor outlined several key initiatives designed to enhance academic and administrative efficiency. These include the acceleration of faculty placement and promotion cases under the Recruitment Rules, provision of ₹15,000 for campus office expenses, consolidated travel allowances of ₹6,000 for contractual teachers, creation of Vice-Principal posts at both GDC Kargil and Sankoo Campus, and the inclusion of Sankoo Campus representation in Syndicate and Teacher Transfer meetings.
Prof. Kushwaha also highlighted measures to improve faculty engagement and student support, including remuneration for examination duties, recognition of on-duty status for official trips and training programs, introduction of new subjects such as Geography, Mathematics, Physics, and Commerce, establishment of campus development funds, and financial assistance for ten underprivileged students.
The Vice-Chancellor commended the dedication of both faculty and students and encouraged them to continue striving for academic excellence and the development of practical skills.
