Leh, Mar 13: The Administration of the Union Territory of Ladakh has announced an internship programme for the academic session 2026–27, inviting students from the region to apply for short-term and long-term internships at premier institutions including IIT Kanpur, IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay.
According to an advertisement notice issued for the programme, the initiative is aimed at providing academic exposure, research experience and learning opportunities to students from Ladakh in leading technical institutions of the country.
Applications for the internship programmes have been opened through an online portal, and April 8, 2026 (11:00 pm) has been set as the last date for submission of applications. The selection process is scheduled to take place between April 10 and April 27, while the results are expected to be announced on May 1, 2026.
The programme offers two categories of internships — a Short-Term Internship of six to eight weeks and a Long-Term Internship lasting four to six months. A total of 30 seats have been allocated for short-term internships, while 15 seats are available for long-term internships across the participating IITs.
Students selected for the short-term internship will receive a consolidated scholarship of ₹15,000, whereas those selected for the long-term internship will be provided a monthly stipend of ₹10,000 during the course of their internship.
Eligibility for the programme extends to students from Ladakh who are currently pursuing undergraduate degrees in Engineering, Sciences, Humanities or Social Sciences, or those who have recently completed their undergraduate studies. Typically, applicants who have completed their second, third or fourth year of study are eligible to apply.
The suggested academic cut-off for applicants is 60 per cent marks or a cumulative GPA of 6.0 at the end of the second or third year, or at the time of graduation. A five per cent relaxation has been provided for SC, ST and PwD candidates, although the final cut-off may vary depending on the number of applications received.
Students currently enrolled in colleges within Ladakh, as well as permanent residents of Ladakh studying in institutions outside the Union Territory, are eligible to apply. Applicants will be required to submit proof of current enrolment, including a No Objection Certificate from their parent institution, or a degree completion certificate in case of graduates.
Candidates must also furnish proof of permanent residence in Ladakh, which may include a Residential Certificate, Aadhaar Card, Passport, Voter ID card or any other government-issued document confirming residency in the Union Territory.
Selection for the short-term internship will be based on evaluation of applications and academic performance, while the long-term internship will involve shortlisting on the basis of marks, past projects, internships and extracurricular or entrepreneurial activities, followed by an interview conducted either online or offline.
As per the schedule mentioned in the advertisement notice, the short-term internship will be conducted during the summer session from May 18 to July 17, 2026, while a winter cycle is tentatively planned between December 2026 and February 2027.
The long-term internship will run for four to six months, with the summer cycle tentatively scheduled from July 1 to December 31, 2026, and the winter cycle between December 2026 and June 2027.
The Government of UT Ladakh will provide a sponsorship certificate for students selected under the programme.
Authorities have advised interested candidates to carefully read the detailed advertisement and eligibility guidelines before submitting their applications through the online portal.
