Washington, June 1: The United States said it carried out “self-defence strikes” against Iranian radar and drone-control facilities on Goruk and Qeshm Island over the weekend, describing the action as a response to what it termed “aggressive” moves by Tehran.
In a post on X, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said Iran had shot down a U.S. MQ-1 drone that was flying over international waters.
According to CENTCOM, U.S. fighter aircraft subsequently targeted and destroyed Iranian air defence systems, a ground control station and two one-way attack drones.
The command said no U.S. military personnel were injured during the operation.
The latest exchange follows a series of strikes between the two countries last week. Iran had targeted a U.S. air base after American forces conducted strikes on what a U.S. official described as an Iranian drone operation near the Strait of Hormuz.
