DRASS : In a move aimed at strengthening community policing and enhancing public participation in crime prevention, Superintendent of Police Drass, Kacho Ishtyaq A.A. Khan (JKPS), on Saturday held an interaction with heads and representatives of various religious institutions, seeking their support in addressing drug abuse, cybercrime and other social challenges confronting society.

The meeting served as a platform for dialogue between the police and religious leaders on issues related to public safety, social awareness and community welfare. Participants shared suggestions and feedback on crime prevention, traffic management and anti-social activities in the district, while the Superintendent of Police assured them that the concerns raised would be examined and addressed appropriately.

A substantial part of the discussion focused on the role of community institutions in supporting preventive policing measures. Religious leaders commended the initiatives undertaken by District Police Drass to curb drug abuse, particularly intensified night patrolling, random vehicle checking and efforts to strengthen police-public coordination for the timely exchange of information.

Addressing the gathering, the SP emphasised that religious institutions occupy a vital position in shaping public opinion and promoting social responsibility. He urged religious leaders to actively contribute to awareness campaigns against substance abuse and assist in sensitising the public about emerging threats such as cyber fraud and crimes against women.

The SP informed participants that District Police Drass would launch a series of awareness programmes from June focusing on cyber safety, prevention of crimes against women and anti-drug campaigns. He appealed to religious organisations to help disseminate these messages through Friday sermons and other community gatherings to maximise outreach.

Among those present were Molana Mohd Abdullah of Kadeemi Markazi Jamia Masjid Drass, Farooq Ahmad, Secretary Gosia Jamia Masjid Drass, Sheikh Hussain Barimo of Isn Aashariya Jamia Masjid Drass, Syed Bakir Shah, Imam Noorbakshi Jamia Masjid Drass, Hafiz Idrees of Kadeemi Jamia Masjid Drass, and Incharge SHO Drass, SI Mohd Ilyas.

The interaction underscored the growing emphasis on collaborative policing, with the district administration and community institutions seeking to work in tandem to address social concerns and strengthen public awareness across Drass.
