Dubai, June 1: The United States has reportedly carried out strikes on Iranian radar and drone control sites following the downing of an American MQ-1 drone over the weekend, according to the US military.
US Central Command said the strikes were conducted on Saturday and Sunday near Geruk and Qeshm Island in Iran, targeting air defence systems, a ground control station, and drone assets. It said the action was in response to “aggressive Iranian activity” and added that no US personnel were injured.
Iran acknowledged retaliatory action, while Kuwait said its air defences intercepted incoming drone and missile fire. Iranian sources also claimed US strikes hit a telecommunications facility, though details remain unverified.
The developments come amid ongoing tensions in the region despite reported ceasefire efforts, with continued military activity involving Iran, Israel, and Hezbollah adding to instability.
US officials said the MQ-1 drone was operating over international waters when it was shot down. Meanwhile, regional shipping through the Strait of Hormuz continues to face disruption amid heightened security risks and rising tensions affecting global energy routes.
Diplomatic efforts between the US and Iran are reportedly ongoing, even as both sides continue military actions and trade accusations over recent escalations.
