Srinagar, June 1: Authorities have revised the check-in baggage rules for Haj pilgrims returning to Srinagar International Airport due to temporary runway maintenance work and payload restrictions following a NOTAM issued at the airport.
The Ministry of Minority Affairs said the return journey, operated by Akasa Airlines via Ahmedabad, has been adjusted accordingly. Pilgrims will be allowed 35 kg of checked baggage up to Ahmedabad. After that, only 5 kg per pilgrim will be permitted on the Ahmedabad–Srinagar flight, while the remaining 30 kg will be transported separately by road to Srinagar.
The ministry clarified that there is no change in cabin baggage allowance.
It further stated that the restrictions have been imposed due to operational requirements linked to temporary runway length limitations, emphasizing that the measures are necessary for flight safety during ongoing maintenance work at the airport.
The ministry also said the Haj Committee of India and the J&K State Haj Committee are in constant coordination with all stakeholders to ensure the safe, smooth, and dignified return of pilgrims, adding that passenger safety remains the top priority.
