Leh, May 17: The University of Ladakh (UoL) on Saturday awarded certificates to officers of the Indian Army, Indian Air Force and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) following the completion of a specialised course on the history, geography and culture of Ladakh, underscoring the growing academic collaboration between civilian institutions and defence establishments in the region.
The six-day programme, conducted from May 11 to 16, concluded with a certificate ceremony attended by senior military and academic officials at the university campus in Leh.
Maj Gen Sudhanshu Sharma, Chief of Staff of the Fire and Fury Corps, and Prof Saket Kushwaha addressed the participants and distributed certificates to the officers who successfully completed the course designed to familiarise security personnel with Ladakh’s historical, geographical and cultural landscape.
In addition to the main programme, certificates were also conferred on Army personnel who completed courses on Solid Waste Management and Chinese Language conducted by the University of Ladakh. Personnel who underwent a Cyber Security course organised by Rashtriya Raksha University during the January–March 2026 session were also felicitated at the event.
Officials associated with the programme said the initiative forms part of a broader effort to strengthen professional capacity among defence personnel deployed in strategically sensitive frontier areas while promoting deeper engagement with the region’s social and cultural fabric.
The collaboration between the University of Ladakh and the Fire and Fury Corps has steadily expanded in recent years through academic exchanges, specialised training modules and skill-development programmes aimed at reinforcing military-civil cooperation in Ladakh.
The concluding ceremony reflected the continuing emphasis on integrating academic institutions into capacity-building initiatives for security forces operating in high-altitude regions, with both the university and defence authorities reiterating their commitment to sustained cooperation in areas of education, strategic studies and community engagement.
