Leh, Sept 09: The Tibetology Course for officers of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police resumed today at the University of Ladakh’s Leh campus with thirty-nine officers beginning their six-week training programme. The initiative marks another phase in academic collaboration between the University of Ladakh, the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies and the ITBP.
The first week of the course was held at the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies, where participants were introduced to foundational aspects of Tibetan studies. On their arrival at the University campus, the officers were welcomed by Vice Chancellor Professor Saket Kushwaha, who extended his support to the academic engagement.
The curriculum has been carefully structured around themes such as geography and environment, history, culture and language, and the geopolitics of Tibet. By delving into these areas, the course seeks to equip officers with a deeper appreciation of the region’s landscape and heritage while enhancing their understanding of its contemporary geopolitical context.
The programme is being coordinated by the Centre for Himalayan and Trans-Himalayan Studies in collaboration with the Department of History and the Department of Political Science at the University of Ladakh.
