Jammu Dec 18: The University of Jammu on Thursday commenced a seven-day faculty development workshop on the design and development of self-learning material and e learning resources, an academic exercise aimed at strengthening regulatory compliant distance and online education under the Centre for Distance and Online Education.
The workshop is being held under the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Centre in collaboration with the Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre and with support from RUSA II Faculty Improvement Support. Faculty members from various disciplines are participating in structured sessions intended to strengthen content creation and digital delivery in compliance with evolving higher education norms.
Chief Guest Prof J P Singh Joorel, while addressing the inaugural session, urged the faculty to align academic programmes with the National Education Policy 2020 and adopt learner centric approaches. He stressed the need for developing courses in e content mode through a four-quadrant framework covering instructional material, learning resources, activities and assessment to reinforce the digital learning framework.
Guest of Honour Prof Sundeep Pandita highlighted the growing responsibility of teachers in ensuring quality self-learning material and sustained academic discipline in distance education. He appreciated the Centre for initiating capacity building measures for faculty.
Earlier, Director CDOE Prof Pankaj K Srivastava outlined the Centre’s vision of widening access to education through structured and accountable online and distance learning systems. Workshop Convener Dr Neelam Choudhary briefed participants on the academic objectives and practical outcomes expected from the programme.
Academic sessions commenced with Dr Ali Asgar of STRIDE IGNOU, who addressed accessibility and quality control in self-learning materials, followed by Prof C R K Murthy, former Director STRIDE IGNOU, who spoke on the evolution of distance education in India.
The workshop will cover instructional design, curriculum review, technology integration, artificial intelligence tools, cybersecurity in higher education and practical development of self-learning material, concluding with a valedictory session later this week.
