HYDERABAD, May 17: Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar said he has full confidence in the judicial system and expressed hope that “truth will ultimately prevail” after the arrest of his son, Bageerath, in a POCSO case.
Calling it a “personal family matter,” Kumar said his family will continue to pursue legal remedies and respect the judicial process. His remarks came a day after the Telangana High Court declined to grant interim protection from arrest to Bageerath, following which he was arrested on Saturday night and later sent to judicial custody by a magistrate.
In a post on X, the minister said his family had been going through an emotionally difficult phase over the past week, marked by stress and anxiety. He also mentioned that his mother suffered a heart stroke during this period, describing it as a traumatic experience for the family.
Kumar added that despite the challenges, overwhelming support from BJP workers, leaders, supporters, and well-wishers across the country had given him strength. He thanked those who stood by his family and expressed gratitude for their solidarity.
He urged party cadres not to be distracted by the situation and to continue focusing on strengthening the BJP in Telangana. Reiterating his stance, he said his family would face the situation with courage, patience, and faith, adding that justice may be delayed but would not be denied.
The case was registered on May 8 under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the POCSO Act based on a complaint filed by the mother of a 17-year-old girl, who alleged that Bageerath was in a relationship with her daughter and had sexually harassed her.
After the girl’s statement was recorded, additional and more serious charges under the POCSO Act were added. Bageerath, meanwhile, had also filed a counter-complaint, alleging that he was invited to family events by the girl after they became acquainted, based on which an FIR was also registered.
