Ratlam/Kota, May 17: A fire broke out in an air-conditioned coach of the Thiruvananthapuram–Hazrat Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express in Madhya Pradesh’s Ratlam district on Sunday morning, railway officials said.
The incident occurred around 5:15 am in the B-1 coach, which was carrying 68 passengers. No casualties or injuries have been reported.
According to senior railway commercial manager Sourabh Jain, the blaze was quickly brought under control. The incident took place between Vikramgarh Alot and Luni Richha stations under the Kota railway division, Ratlam PRO Mukesh Kumar said.
Following the incident, the affected coach was detached from the train, and overhead electric supply was switched off as a precautionary measure. All passengers were safely deboarded and the fire was extinguished shortly thereafter, officials added.
Passengers were later accommodated in other coaches to continue their journey up to Kota. An additional coach is expected to be attached at Kota station to restore full capacity.
Railway officials said the train is likely to reach Kota around 11 am. The Divisional Railway Manager of Ratlam has reached the site, and an accident relief train has also been deployed.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined and is under investigation.
