New Delhi, Dec 19: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a fresh alert against three fake universities — NIMS in Delhi, Sarva Bharatiya Shiksha Peeth in Karnataka, and National Backward Krushi Vidyapeeth in Maharashtra — warning students that degrees from these institutions are invalid and won’t be recognized for jobs or further studies.
The UGC emphasized that these entities lack approval under Sections 2(f) or 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, yet issue degrees illegally, misleading job seekers and aspiring students. NIMS Delhi poses as a management institute but holds no university status; Sarva Bharatiya Shiksha Peeth in Tumkur operates without AICTE nod; and National Backward Krushi Vidyapeeth in Solapur’s Tadwal village similarly lacks any regulatory backing.
Students, parents, and employers must verify institutions via UGC’s updated state-wise fake universities list before enrollment, as such fake qualifications could derail careers, the Commission cautioned in its public notices.
The UGC Act, 1956, strictly mandates recognition for any body to award degrees, and the agency regularly updates its blacklist to protect against fraud in India’s higher education landscape.
