RAMBAN, MAY 30 : Two persons lost their lives after a truck skidded off the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and plunged into a deep gorge before catching fire near Gangroo in the Ramsoo area of Ramban district on Saturday.
Officials said the vehicle reportedly went out of the driver’s control while moving along NH-44 and fell into the gorge. Moments after the crash, the truck was engulfed in flames.
Police personnel, rescue teams and local volunteers rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. After the fire was extinguished, two charred bodies were recovered from the burnt remains of the vehicle.
The deceased are believed to be the truck’s occupants, though their identities had not been established at the time of filing this report.
Police have registered the case and initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.
The incident has once again raised concerns over road safety on the accident-prone mountainous stretch of NH-44 in Ramban district, where challenging terrain and road conditions frequently contribute to mishaps.
