Baramulla, Jan 9: Two Army porters who slipped into a nallah near Upper Gulmarg in Baramulla district were found dead after an overnight search operation, officials said on Friday.
The victims have been identified as Layakat Ahmad Deedard (27), son of Ghulam Mohammad Deedard from Masjid Aagan Chandoosa, and Ishfaq Ahmad Khatana (33), son of Jamal-ud-Din Khatana from Pachar Chandoosa in Baramulla.
The incident took place on Thursday when the porters were heading towards Anita Post, a forward location that becomes inaccessible during winter due to heavy snowfall. While traversing a snow-covered and slippery section, both lost their footing and fell into the nallah.
Army personnel and local rescue teams immediately launched a search operation despite challenging weather conditions and difficult terrain. The bodies were recovered after sustained efforts throughout the night.
Family members confirmed the recovery of the bodies following the overnight operation. Officials said further formalities are currently underway.
