Dehradun Dec 31: The killing of Anjel Chakma, a student from Tripura and son of a BSF head constable, was the result of a heat-of-the-moment altercation rather than a racially motivated attack, Dehradun police said on Tuesday.
Senior Superintendent of Police Ajai Singh stated that a preliminary investigation, including the interrogation of the accused, indicated that the incident stemmed from a sudden physical confrontation that turned violent.
“It was an impulsive act that escalated unexpectedly,” Singh said, adding that both accused included a minor from the Buksa tribe and another individual from Manipur. “There was no racial motive behind the assault.”
Chakma, a final-year MBA student who had recently secured placement at a private company, was attacked by a group of six people in Selaqui, Dehradun, on December 9. During the brawl, one of the accused reportedly grabbed a knife from a nearby pushcart and stabbed him. The 24-year-old succumbed to his injuries on December 26 during treatment.
