JAMMU, JUNE 20 : A Parliamentary Standing Committee (PSC) on External Affairs headed by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor will undertake a four-day visit to the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh from June 22 to 25 to deliberate on “Understanding India-China Relations and the Way Forward” and discuss recent developments in India-Pakistan relations.
Official sources said the panel will visit Jammu and Srinagar in J&K and Leh and Kargil in Ladakh. The committee is also expected to travel to areas along the International Border and Line of Control with Pakistan, as well as villages near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China in eastern Ladakh, to assess the ground situation.
Ahead of the visit, members of the committee were briefed by the Ministry of External Affairs at Parliament House Annexe on key issues relating to India’s ties with Pakistan and China, with particular focus on Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
During the visit, the committee will interact with troops deployed in forward areas, local residents and other stakeholders to gain first-hand insights into strategic and security-related issues in the border regions.
The visit assumes significance as the panel is expected to examine the evolving dynamics of India’s relations with both neighbouring countries. While tensions with China have eased following disengagement efforts after the 2020 Galwan clash, relations with Pakistan remain strained in the aftermath of the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor.
The committee is also scheduled to hold meetings with senior officials of the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh administrations.
