New Delhi, October 6: The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed a petition seeking directions for schools to recite the Preamble to the Constitution during morning assemblies.
A bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath, Augustine George Masih and Sandeep Mehta rejected the plea with a brief order, saying, “Dismissed.”
The petitioner’s counsel argued that the Preamble should be recited in schools during morning assemblies and referred to Article 21A of the Constitution, which guarantees the right to education.
The bench, however, noted that the Preamble is already taught to students in Class 6 and dismissed the petition.
The plea had sought a formal direction making the recitation of the Constitution’s Preamble part of morning assemblies in schools.
