Jammu, October 6: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has approved the provision of land for installation of mobile towers in 12 underserved areas across the Union Territory to expand telecom connectivity, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said on Tuesday.
In a post on X, the Chief Minister said the land has been approved under the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) for mobile tower installations in Uri, Tangmarg, Karnah, Kalakote, Kralpora, Basantgarh, Khour, Latti Marothi, Banihal, Pogal Paristan, Ramsoo and Qila Darhal.
The initiative is aimed at strengthening high-speed telecom coverage in areas that continue to face connectivity gaps.
Omar Abdullah said improved mobile connectivity would particularly benefit remote and border villages by providing better access to digital services and communication facilities.
The expansion of telecom infrastructure is also expected to support online education, e-governance services and emergency communication, while helping bridge the digital divide between urban and remote areas of J&K.
The move is being seen as an important step towards improving digital connectivity in geographically difficult and underserved parts of the Union Territory.
