Leh, Sept 07: The Bharatiya Janata Party has announced the appointment of veteran party functionary Stanzin Lakpa as its State General Secretary for the Union Territory of Ladakh, a move seen as reinforcing the party’s organisational structure in the Himalayan region.
Lakpa, who has been associated with the BJP for over three decades, expressed gratitude to the state and central leadership for entrusting him with the new responsibility. In his statement, he acknowledged the support of BJP State President Tashi Gyaltson Kachu and conveyed appreciation to National President J. P. Nadda, National General Secretary (Organisation) B. L. Santosh and the national executive for their confidence in him.
Reflecting on his long association with the party, Lakpa said he had dedicated his political journey to the service and progress of Ladakh, guided by the BJP’s principles of inclusivity and collective effort. He described the appointment as an opportunity to strengthen the organisation in the region and to carry forward the aspirations of the people.
Lakpa expressed gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi for what he described as transformative leadership that enabled Ladakh to attain Union Territory status in 2019. He also credited Home Minister Amit Shah for steering the bifurcation of Ladakh from Jammu and Kashmir, calling it a decisive moment in the region’s political history.
Invoking the vision of the late Bakula Rinpoche, revered for championing Ladakh’s identity and rights, Lakpa said the Union Territory status was a fulfillment of the long-standing demand of the people and a vindication of decades of struggle against what he termed neglect under Kashmiri dominance.
Pledging to advance Ladakh’s development agenda, Lakpa assured that under BJP’s stewardship, the region would witness sustained growth and prosperity. He emphasised that his role would be dedicated to ensuring dignity and welfare for every Ladakhi while consolidating the party’s presence on the ground.
