SRINAGAR, May 20 : Renowned surgical oncologist and robotic cancer specialist Dr Asim Rizvi, a native of Nabdipora Hawal in Srinagar, passed away in Noida following a suspected cardiac arrest, reports said on Wednesday.
His sudden demise has sent shockwaves across the medical community, with colleagues, patients and admirers mourning the loss of a highly respected cancer surgeon known for his dedication and compassionate care.
Dr Rizvi was serving as Principal Director of Surgical Oncology and Robotic Surgery at Yashoda Medicity. He was widely recognised for his expertise in advanced gastrointestinal, colorectal, liver and pancreatic cancer surgeries, particularly minimally invasive and robotic-assisted procedures.
Sources said he suffered a sudden heart-related medical emergency; however, no official confirmation on the exact cause of death had been issued till the filing of this report.
A highly respected figure in oncology, Dr Rizvi had received advanced international training in laparoscopic and robotic cancer surgery, including fellowships in Colorectal and Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary OncoSurgery. He also underwent specialised training at Yonsei University, South Korea.
Throughout his career, he was known for handling complex cancer cases and promoting precision-based, patient-centric treatment approaches in surgical oncology.
Recently, Yashoda Medicity had highlighted one of his successful pancreatic cancer surgeries involving a complex Whipple procedure performed on a 70-year-old patient, describing it as a “miracle of the day.”
