Srinagar, Jan 31: Dozens of Anganwadi workers and helpers protested against ongoing injustice, demanding service regularisation, higher honorarium, timely wages, pension cover, and gratuity—only to be stopped by police from assembling at the Press Enclave.
The workers, who serve at the grassroots implementing child nutrition, health, and welfare schemes, highlighted their tireless efforts on meager, often delayed monthly pay. They accused authorities of hypocrisy, contrasting “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” slogans with their plight: “It feels like Beti Padhao, Sadak Pe Lao.”
Leader Fehmeeda Shah urged the Lieutenant Governor, Chief Minister, and ministers to address demands during the upcoming Assembly session. “We work tirelessly but are denied rights. Police block our peaceful protests while using our services,” she said.
Service regularisation for financial security
Honorarium enhancement to combat low wages
Timely salary payments and pension/gratuity benefits
Protesters noted years of unaddressed grievances, with many struggling financially despite their vital role. They vowed to continue demonstrations if unmet.
