New Delhi, Apr 16 : A minor collision occurred at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Thursday when a SpiceJet aircraft struck a stationary Akasa Air plane while taxiing, damaging both aircraft but causing no injuries.
The SpiceJet Boeing 737-700, which had just arrived from Leh, sustained damage to its right winglet as it pulled into its gate. The Akasa Air plane, which was pushing back for a Hyderabad flight, suffered damage to its left-hand horizontal stabilizer.
“Preliminary information indicates that Akasa’s aircraft was stationary when another airline’s aircraft made contact with it,” Akasa Air said in a statement. All passengers and crew were safely disembarked, and ground teams are arranging alternative flights to Hyderabad.
FlightRadar24 playback confirms the incident happened during the taxiing and pushback manoeuvres. SpiceJet has grounded its aircraft for repairs, while the DGCA is expected to investigate the ground safety lapse.
