Leh, May 19 : SNM Hospital Leh on Monday observed World Hypertension Day with a screening and awareness programme aimed at promoting early detection and preventive measures against high blood pressure, commonly referred to by health experts as the “silent killer”.
The programme was conducted by the hospital’s Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) staff and included sensitisation sessions for AMT students on hypertension, its causes, symptoms and long-term complications.
During the awareness session, Rizwana Din highlighted the importance of lifestyle modifications in preventing and managing hypertension, stressing the need for regular blood pressure monitoring and early diagnosis.
The programme also focused on preventive healthcare practices such as maintaining a balanced diet, engaging in regular physical activity and managing stress levels to reduce the risk of hypertension and associated cardiovascular complications.
Officials said the awareness drive was organised to strengthen public understanding of non-communicable diseases and encourage healthier lifestyle choices among students and the wider community.
The campaign formed part of World Hypertension Day observances aimed at increasing awareness about high blood pressure and promoting timely intervention to prevent serious health complications.
