Katra, Feb 06: The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University on Friday organised an old clothes collection and distribution drive on the university campus to support underprivileged workers and their families.
The initiative was carried out by the National Service Scheme volunteers, who collected used clothes, toys and books from university staff members and distributed them among Class IV employees and construction workers working inside the campus at Katra.
According to the organisers, the donated clothes were first segregated according to size and category. Beneficiaries were then allowed to select items based on their personal needs, ensuring a fair and orderly distribution.
A large number of male and female workers, along with their young children, received clothes during the drive. The organisers said the activity was aimed at promoting values of sharing and social responsibility among student volunteers.
The programme was conducted entirely by NSS student volunteers of the university.
NSS Programme Coordinator Rajiv Kumar and co-coordinator Kamaldeep appreciated the efforts of the volunteers and lauded their commitment towards community welfare.
