Jammu: Jammu district will soon boast six state-of-the-art indoor stadiums by mid-2026, a landmark initiative by the district administration to boost sports infrastructure, nurture youth talent and combat drug abuse.
Construction has started on two stadiums at Marh and Akhnoor, with foundations laid by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at Marh; the rest will follow in phases. Modeled after Kathua’s acclaimed ultra-modern facility, each will span 5-6 kanals on state land, funded via HDFC Bank’s CSR.
Stadiums will feature National Games-standard amenities including rifle shooting ranges, badminton courts, judo, taekwondo, karate, boxing, table tennis areas, and public libraries— all free for users, managed by local committees under SDM oversight.
The project decentralizes sports access to rural areas, promotes year-round training, identifies grassroots talent for national representation, and channels youth energy away from substance abuse toward discipline and purpose.
