Leh, Mar 28: The ASMITA League 2026 concluded at the NDS Ice Hockey Stadium in Leh on Friday, with Sham Eagles securing the ice hockey title after a 2-0 victory over Lalok in the final.
The closing ceremony was attended by the Chief Guest, Sangita Saxena, who commended the participants for their performance and dedication. She acknowledged the role of athletes, coaches and families in advancing women’s participation in sports and expressed support for continued development in this sector.
The programme commenced with the National Song and National Anthem, marking 150 years of Vande Mataram. Administrative Secretary, Youth Services and Sports, Moses Kunzang, formally welcomed the Chief Guest and outlined the department’s plans to expand winter sports activities in the region.
He stated that additional tournaments would be organised to encourage wider participation of girls and to strengthen grassroots engagement in sports. He also referred to the ASMITA initiative as a structured effort to promote women’s empowerment through organised sporting platforms.
In her address, Saxena noted the progress made in developing ice rink facilities in Ladakh and stated that such infrastructure would contribute to improved performance at national and international levels. She also observed that athletes from Ladakh, particularly girls, are increasingly gaining recognition in competitive sports.
The prize distribution ceremony followed the final match. Sham Eagles secured the gold medal in ice hockey, Lalok finished with silver, and Kharu claimed bronze. Participants in speed skating and figure skating events were also recognised.
The event recorded active participation from athletes and drew attendance from local spectators, concluding this year’s edition of the ASMITA League in Leh.
