Soldier martyred in line of duty in Kupwara
Srinagar, Aug 28: Two terrorists were killed as security forces foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Gurez sector of Bandipora district, while another terrorist believed to be behind a grenade terror attack was arrested in Pulwama district.
Also, a soldier has sacrificed his life in the line of duty in Kupwara district.
“Based on intelligence provided by Jammu and Kashmir Police regarding likely infiltration attempt, a joint operation was launched by Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police in Gurez Sector,” Army’s Srinagar-based Chinar Corps said on X.
The Army said alert troops spotted suspicious activity and challenged the intruders, which resulted in terrorists opening indiscriminate fire.
“Troops responded with effective fire, neutralising two terrorists,” the Army said, adding that the operation was in progress.
Officials said that security forces along the LoC are alert, ensuring robust border security in the face of any threats.
This heightened vigilance spans key frontier areas, including Gurez, Uri, Karnah and Tangdhar sectors in North Kashmir.
The officials said that troops have intensified surveillance and patrolling along the LoC, maintaining strict domination over the sensitive border region. “Our forces are fully alert and prepared to respond swiftly to any infiltration attempts,” the officials added.
Also, security forces have arrested an alleged terrorist, who is suspected to be involved in a grenade attack on a CRPF camp earlier this year, from Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district, a police official said on Thursday.
During a swipe search at Hari Parigam village in Awantipora tehsil of the south Kashmir district late on Wednesday evening, security forces arrested a suspected person, the official said.
The arrested suspect has been identified as Sakib Reyaz Ganie, resident of Chaki-Cholan of the Shopian district.
“The subject was the prime suspect of a grenade attack on a CRPF camp at Lariyar on May 20, 2025,” the official said.
He added that a pistol, a pistol magazine and seven live 9 mm rounds were recovered from the suspect’s possession.
Meanwhile, a soldier has died in the line of duty in Kupwara district, Army said on Thursday.
“Chinar Corps honours the supreme sacrifice of braveheart Havildar Ikbal Ali, while performing operational duty in Kupwara district. His courage and dedication will forever inspire us,” the Army’s Srinagar-based Chinar Corps said on X.
