PESHAWAR, JUNE 20 : At least seven people were killed and three others injured in two consecutive roadside explosions in Pakistan’s restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Saturday, police said.
The blasts occurred in the Marka Bera area of Bannu district. According to District Police Officer Yasir Afridi, the first explosion was triggered by an improvised explosive device (IED) planted along a roadside, which struck a passenger van travelling from Hathi Khel village to Bannu city, killing five people on the spot.
A second blast occurred shortly afterwards at the same location, targeting people involved in rescue operations. Two more people were killed and a vehicle was damaged in the explosion.
The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital, while security forces and law enforcement agencies cordoned off the area and launched an investigation. No group had claimed responsibility for the attack at the time of filing this report.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi condemned the incident and ordered a detailed investigation, assuring full support to the affected families and directing authorities to provide the best possible treatment to the injured.
Governor Faisal Karim Kundi also condemned the twin blasts and expressed condolences to the victims’ families.
