Leh, Apr 23: Secretary, Higher Education, UT Ladakh, Bhanu Prabha on Wednesday said the administration remains committed to expanding access to quality higher education in remote regions, as she reviewed enrolment, academic performance and infrastructure at Government Degree College (GDC) Nobra.
During her visit, the Secretary, accompanied by senior district officials, held detailed consultations with faculty members, students, administrative staff and local stakeholders to assess enrolment trends and evaluate measures aimed at increasing student intake from underserved areas of Nubra Valley. The interaction focused on addressing barriers to higher education and strengthening outreach efforts in geographically isolated regions, with particular emphasis on improving access for students from remote areas.
The Principal of the college, Rigzin Sandup, presented a comprehensive report on enrolment initiatives, academic structure and existing facilities. The academic framework of the institution, including curriculum implementation and student support systems, was also reviewed. Faculty members highlighted ongoing academic activities, while outlining challenges related to resource constraints and student engagement, along with measures being undertaken to improve learning outcomes.
A thorough inspection of the college infrastructure, including newly constructed sections and essential amenities, was carried out. While acknowledging the progress achieved by the institution, the Secretary noted the need for further improvements to meet emerging academic and infrastructural requirements.
She reiterated the government’s resolve to support the upgradation of facilities and enhancement of academic resources, directing the college administration to maintain focus on improving enrolment and sustaining academic standards.
The visit concluded with directions to continue efforts towards academic excellence and to strengthen enrolment and infrastructure in line with the region’s educational needs.
