LEH: Administrative Secretary, Transport Department, UT Ladakh, Bhupesh Choudhary briefed the media on the extension of the Early Bird Incentive, aimed at providing subsidy, under the Ladakh Electric Vehicle and Allied Infrastructure Policy, 2022.
This subsidy component (Early Bird Incentive) under the EV policy has now been extended up to 31st March, 2027, aimed at boosting the adoption of electric vehicles across Ladakh.
During the briefing, Choudhary stated that the Government of Ladakh is committed to promoting sustainable mobility by making electric vehicles more affordable and accessible for the public, transport operators and government establishments.
He said that the Early Bird Incentive will remain valid for almost one and half year from notification and provides up to 20% subsidy on the ex-showroom price of electric vehicles, depending on the category and the prescribed maximum limit.
As per the policy details, the Early Bird Incentive covers 116 EVs across multiple segments. This includes 35 electric two-wheelers, 10 e-rickshaws/e-carts, 10 electric three-wheelers, 40 electric cars, 11 electric buses, and 10 electric LCVs/Maxi Cabs. These numbers represent the maximum vehicles eligible under the early adoption category.
The Secretary outlined the subsidy structure for each category as reflected in the official policy documents. Under the Early Bird Incentive, buyers will receive 20% of the ex-showroom price or the maximum cap, whichever is lower.
The maximum subsidy limits include ₹30,000 for electric two-wheelers, ₹60,000 for e-rickshaws/e-carts, ₹1,00,000 for electric three-wheelers, ₹5,00,000 for electric cars, ₹1,00,00,000 for electric buses, and ₹6,00,000 for electric LCVs/Maxi Cabs.
Apart from the Early Bird Incentive, the EV Policy offers a 10% subsidy during the main policy period. The Secretary briefed that these incentives make EVs significantly more affordable. For example, an electric car priced at ₹5 lakh may be purchased at around ₹4 lakh after the Early Bird reduction.
Choudhary appealed to the residents of Ladakh to avail the benefits of the EV policy and the extended Early Bird Incentive. He encouraged citizens to transition to electric mobility and contribute to safeguarding the fragile environment of Ladakh while moving towards a cleaner and more sustainable transport future.
