Leh, May 23 : Secretary, School Education Department, UT Ladakh, Bhanu Prabha emphasised on strengthening foundational learning and equipping teachers with quality educational resources remains central to Ladakh’s education reforms, as the department launched a series of initiatives aimed at improving Early Childhood Education and Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) across Government and Government-aided schools in the Union Territory.

The launch ceremony, organised in collaboration with 17000ft Foundation at the Exhibition Hall, DIET Leh, marked the introduction of a range of teaching-learning interventions aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework for Foundational Stage (NCF-FS) 2022.

Addressing the gathering, Bhanu Prabha said the focus of the education system must extend beyond academic performance to include the development of social skills, character and the ability of children to learn independently from an early age. She noted that teachers require structured support tools and educational aids to strengthen classroom learning processes, and acknowledged the contribution of 17000ft Foundation in supporting educational initiatives in Ladakh over the years.

One of the major highlights of the event was the launch of “Jadui-e-Pitara”, locally named “Migtrul-gi-Gyegu”, a set of Teaching Learning Material (TLM) bags developed for Government-aided schools. The kits contain posters, charts, flashcards and educational aids designed to make classroom learning more activity-based, interactive and child-centric.

The programme also witnessed the introduction of teacher support tools, including Daily Lesson Plans, Practice Worksheets, Monthly Assessment Checklists and Flash Cards aimed at improving foundational literacy and numeracy outcomes.

Environment-friendly wooden educational learning materials for Anganwadis and Balvatikas were showcased during the event to support school readiness and strengthen early childhood learning experiences.

A new set of school uniforms for Ladakh Model Schools, reflecting local cultural identity and inclusivity, was also unveiled during the ceremony.

Teacher Support Tool Kits were formally handed over to the Chief Education Officers of Leh and Kargil for implementation across schools in the region.

Representatives of 17000ft Foundation highlighted the organisation’s work in strengthening educational ecosystems in remote Himalayan areas through teacher training, digital learning infrastructure, playgrounds and libraries, while encouraging greater community participation in children’s education.

The event concluded with stakeholders reaffirming their commitment to ensuring equitable, joyful and high-quality foundational education for every child in Ladakh.
