Jammu, Nov 28: Security forces on Friday mounted a cordon and search operation in the higher reaches of Udhampur district following reports of suspicious movement, officials said.
The joint operation by the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was launched in the Chigla-Balotha stretch of the Basantgarh area, they added.
Basantgarh lies close to a traditional infiltration corridor used by Pakistani militants entering through the International Border in Kathua before navigating the rugged terrain toward Doda and Kishtwar districts and further into the Kashmir Valley.
Officials said the alert was triggered after intelligence inputs suggested the presence of three unidentified persons in the Balotha region. All exit routes have been sealed as searches continue across forested slopes and remote hamlets.
The area has seen multiple encounters and previous attempts at infiltration, prompting heightened vigil by security agencies. Forces remain deployed to prevent any possible movement deeper into the region.
Officials said further details will be shared once the operation concludes.
