JAMMU, JUNE 25 : Security forces conducted a cordon and search operation in several sensitive areas along the RS Pura border belt of Jammu district on Thursday as part of intensified security arrangements ahead of the annual Amarnath Yatra, officials said.
The 57-day pilgrimage to the holy Amarnath cave shrine is scheduled to begin on July 3 via the traditional 48-km Nunwan-Pahalgam route in Anantnag district and the shorter 14-km Baltal route in Ganderbal district.
The operation was carried out jointly by Jammu Police with support from personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
According to officials, search operations were conducted at identified sensitive locations in the Chakroi area, including the residences of individuals with criminal antecedents. Similar searches were also carried out in the Baspur Bangla area.
All searches were conducted in the presence of family members and occupants while adhering to prescribed legal procedures, officials said.
No suspicious persons, contraband, incriminating material or objectionable items were recovered during the operation.
Police said the exercise was part of ongoing efforts to maintain law and order, strengthen security measures and prevent anti-social and unlawful activities in the run-up to the Amarnath Yatra.
