CHANDIGARH, JUNE 25 : Punjab Police has dismantled a cross-border illegal arms and narcotics network with the arrest of seven persons, including an Afghan national, officials said on Thursday.
During a joint operation conducted by the Amritsar Commissionerate Police and a central agency, authorities recovered more than five kilograms of heroin, 10 sophisticated weapons, including two sub-machine guns, and ₹30.38 lakh in cash.
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigations revealed that the accused were allegedly linked to foreign-based handlers who operated through social media platforms.
According to the police, the network was involved in receiving consignments of narcotics and illegal arms from across the border and distributing them to criminal elements in different areas. The accused also allegedly used hawala channels for financial transactions.
An FIR has been registered at Islamabad Police Station in Amritsar, and further investigation is underway.
Police are working to establish both backward and forward linkages of the network, identify additional associates connected to the foreign-based handlers, and trace further recoveries and arrests in the case.
