Jammu: In a bid to uphold equality and fair opportunity within the petroleum transport sector, members of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities in Jammu and Kashmir have announced the formation of the “SC-ST Oil & LPG Transporters Association (J&K).”
The association emerged through a unanimously adopted resolution by transporters, entrepreneurs, and contractors engaged in government tenders for bulk LPG and fuel transportation. The initiative marks a significant step toward ensuring transparency and accountability in dealings with major public sector oil companies, including Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited.
Aimed at safeguarding the collective interests of SC and ST transporters, the new body intends to serve as a representative platform to address grievances and advocate for justice in the tendering process of both government and public sector undertakings. The association has pledged to ensure that all qualified community members are granted equal opportunity in the sector’s competitive environment.
S. Harasis Singh, a well-known social activist, has been appointed as the Convener of the association. Empowered to represent and correspond on its behalf before government departments, courts, and the media, Singh expressed gratitude to the community members for their confidence in his leadership. He assured his commitment to working earnestly toward securing the rightful representation of SC/ST transporters.
The signatories on the association include Razia Begum, Bandana Devi, Avinash Mehia, Karamjeet Singh, and Jagdish Raj, among others. In their collective statement, they emphasized the need for fairness and transparency in the operations of government-owned oil companies and reiterated their resolve to pursue justice and equality for the SC and ST communities in the transportation trade.
