Samba Mar 24 : Specialised mountaineering and rescue training is currently underway in Samba district as part of preparations for the 2026 Amarnath Yatra. Security and disaster‑response personnel, including Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) units, are being trained at facilities in the Nud area to form Mountain Rescue Teams (MRTs) that will be deployed along the Yatra route.
The training focuses on high‑altitude operations, stretcher‑based casualty evacuation, avalanche and crevasse rescue, and emergency response in extreme weather, with officials confident that the enhanced preparedness will help ensure the safety and smooth movement of lakhs of yatris trekking to the Amarnath cave this year
