New Delhi, March 24: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday that the government is trying to procure gas and crude oil from all available sources as the West Asia war has triggered a serious global energy crisis. Speaking in the Rajya Sabha, he said the conflict in the region is a cause of concern and that India seeks peace through dialogue and diplomacy.
India’s aim is to de‑escalate the war and secure the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, Modi added, stressing the country’s efforts to encourage all parties to resolve issues peacefully. He warned that if the West Asia crisis prolongs, serious consequences will follow for the global economy and energy markets.
On energy security, the Prime Minister highlighted that 53 lakh metric tonnes of strategic oil reserves have been created over the past 11 years, with work underway on an additional 65 lakh MT capacity. He also noted that the government has launched a ₹70,000‑crore project to manufacture ships, aimed at strengthening India’s self‑reliance in energy transportation and infrastructure.
