SRINAGAR, May 8: Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare, and Education Sakeena Itoo on Friday chaired a comprehensive review meeting to assess the progress of ongoing developmental projects across Jammu and Kashmir.
The meeting reviewed works being executed by the Education, Health, and Social Welfare departments, with a focus on project monitoring, fund utilisation, and inter-departmental coordination to ensure effective implementation.
While reviewing the Education Department, the Minister assessed progress on school infrastructure, upgradation of buildings, smart classrooms, laboratories, libraries, and basic facilities in educational institutions. She directed officials to ensure quality infrastructure to provide students with a better learning environment.
Emphasising the need for modern educational facilities in rural and remote areas, she asked officials to expedite pending works and strengthen digital learning infrastructure across institutions.
During the Health Department review, Sakeena Itoo took stock of hospital infrastructure upgrades, healthcare delivery systems, and ongoing projects. She stressed the need to ensure accessible and affordable healthcare, especially in remote areas.
She directed authorities to speed up health projects and ensure availability of essential equipment, medicines, manpower, and public utilities. She also ordered the constitution of a committee to assess the status of lifts, oxygen plants, and other hospital facilities, with a report to be submitted within a week.
On the Social Welfare sector, the Minister instructed officials to ensure saturation of all eligible beneficiaries under government schemes and to conduct awareness drives so that people are informed about available welfare programmes.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to inclusive development, she said sustained efforts are being made to strengthen public services and infrastructure across key sectors in J&K. She emphasised timely completion of all projects to ensure benefits reach people without delay.
Sakeena Itoo also directed officials to consult local MLAs while planning developmental works and to ensure that all budget-announced projects are completed within stipulated timelines.
The meeting was attended by senior officers from the Health, Education, and Social Welfare departments, including directors of finance and planning, along with other concerned officials.
