Kargil, May 07: Residents of Goma Kargil on Wednesday voiced long-pending concerns related to drinking water supply, healthcare infrastructure, traffic congestion and defunct street lights during a Khidmat-e-Awaam programme organised by the District Administration Kargil under the “Prashasan Gaon Ki Aur” initiative.
The public outreach programme was chaired by Tehsildar Kargil Ayaz Ahmed Bhat (JKAS) and witnessed participation from officers representing multiple departments, including Power Development Department, Municipal Committee, Integrated Child Development Services, Public Health Engineering, Irrigation and Flood Control, Education, Fisheries, Agriculture, Horticulture, Cooperatives, Animal and Sheep Husbandry, and banking institutions.
Addressing the gathering, the Tehsildar said the initiative was aimed at strengthening direct interaction between the administration and the people at the grassroots level while ensuring timely redressal of public grievances.
During the interaction session, residents from various hamlets highlighted inadequate drinking water supply under the 24×7 water scheme and malfunctioning street lights that have remained unattended for a prolonged period. Locals also demanded installation of solar rechargeable street lights to improve public convenience, particularly during night hours.
Healthcare infrastructure emerged as another major concern, with residents urging the administration to expedite construction of a Community Health Centre building, which is presently operating from rented accommodation.
Women participants strongly advocated for establishment of skill development and vocational training centres in the area, stressing the need for livelihood opportunities and economic empowerment of women. They called upon the concerned departments to introduce training facilities tailored to local requirements.
Traffic-related problems were also brought to the notice of the administration, with residents stating that frequent congestion in the area often delays transportation of schoolchildren and affects daily movement.
Following the public interaction, the Tehsildar conducted an on-ground inspection of several locations within the village to assess the issues firsthand. He directed the concerned departmental officers to address the grievances on priority and ensure prompt follow-up action.
The programme forms part of the administration’s ongoing outreach efforts to improve delivery of public services in remote areas of Kargil district through direct engagement with local communities.
