CEC Kargil lays foundation for Multi-Crore devp works in Sangrah
KARGIL: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Kargil, Dr. Mohd. Jaffer Akhoon on Wednesday launched a fresh round of development works worth several crores in the Sangrah constituency, aimed at boosting local infrastructure and public amenities.
A large number of residents gathered as Dr. Akhoon laid the foundation stones for a new Community Hall/Reading Hall at Goma Sangrah, along with the upgradation and construction of additional floors of the existing Community Hall at Bansala Sangrah. Officials including Executive Engineer R&B SVD Sankoo, Councillor Aga Syed Ahmad Razvi, political representatives and religious leaders were present on the occasion.
Speaking at the event, the CEC said the projects would enhance educational and social facilities in one of the region’s remotest belts. He noted that the upcoming reading hall and digital learning spaces would especially benefit students from underprivileged families by providing access to computers, books, and internet services.
“The aim is to ensure students here have the same learning opportunities as their counterparts across the country,” Dr. Akhoon said, adding that enhanced digital access would help bridge educational gaps and equip youth to compete at a wider level.
He also underlined the role of community infrastructure in societal development. The upgraded community hall, he stated, would serve as a venue for public gatherings, cultural and religious activities, youth engagement initiatives and awareness programmes — fostering collective participation and social cohesion.
Assuring continued support, Dr. Akhoon said LAHDC Kargil would bring more projects to Sangrah in the coming months to improve living standards and advance inclusive development. “Our focus remains on delivering modern facilities to every village,” he added, while acknowledging the public response to the initiatives.
Residents expressed optimism that the ongoing works would address long-standing needs of the constituency and strengthen access to essential services.
