Leh, May 05 : A combined push for wellness and healthcare gathered pace in Leh on Monday, with nearly 90 participants attending the third day of yoga and meditation sessions at the MIMC, even as a parallel Mega Free Medical Camp at its Devachan campus recorded a daily footfall of over 100 patients.

The meditation session, held at the Shangri-La Pyramid Meditation Temple, was led by Dr. Binny Sareen, who emphasised the integration of yoga and meditation into daily life, particularly among young people and monastic communities.

Organisers said the steady turnout at both initiatives reflects growing public engagement during the ongoing Sacred Exposition of the Holy Relics of the Tathagata Buddha, with participants ranging from students and monks to local residents and labourers.

Dr. Sareen, addressing the gathering, underscored the value of beginning the day with a positive mindset, drawing on the example of Mother Teresa to highlight the impact of mindful living. She also explained the distinction between yoga and meditation, presenting both as complementary practices that extend beyond physical exercise.

The session further explored four dimensions of healing — mental, physical, emotional and spiritual — encouraging a holistic approach to well-being. Participants actively engaged in the programme, reflecting sustained interest in structured wellness activities in the region.

Running alongside the meditation sessions, the Mega Free Medical Camp at the Mahabodhi Mahakaruna Charitable Hospital has continued to witness a steady influx of patients. The camp is being organised by the Administration of the Union Territory of Ladakh in collaboration with MIMC and SNM Hospital, and is scheduled to continue until May 14.

Officials said the outreach is offering free consultations, diagnostic services and medicines to patients from across Ladakh. The services are being accessed by a diverse group, including monks, nuns and residents from remote areas, indicating both the demand for accessible healthcare and the programme’s reach.

Specialist doctors, including gynaecologists, ENT surgeons, ophthalmologists and dental practitioners, attended to patients, supported by diagnostic facilities such as tuberculosis screening, non-communicable disease assessments and radiology services.

In addition to modern medical care, practitioners of the traditional Sowa Rigpa system were also present, providing consultations through Amchi healing practices, thereby expanding the range of treatment options available at the camp.

Officials noted that the initiative aims to ensure uninterrupted healthcare access during the religious congregation while addressing routine and specialised medical needs. With the camp set to continue for another ten days, authorities expect participation from more remote areas, as efforts continue to bridge healthcare gaps across Ladakh’s dispersed population.
