Leh, May 05 : A delegation from Nyoma Sub-Division in Changthang on Monday met Tashi Gyalson, expressing appreciation for his role in facilitating the notification of Changthang as a district while pressing for the early establishment of a robust administrative framework to ensure effective governance in the region.
Led by Thinles Norboo, the delegation comprised religious representatives, political functionaries and village heads from across Nyoma, including members from Korzok, Hanley, Chumathang and other remote settlements. The representatives underlined the urgency of instituting mechanisms that would enable decentralised decision-making and equitable delivery of public services in the newly created district.
The delegation acknowledged Gyalson’s contribution during his tenure as Chairman of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh, noting that his engagement had helped advance the long-pending demand for district status. They sought his continued guidance in shaping administrative and developmental priorities as Changthang transitions into a full-fledged district.
Members of the delegation also conveyed their appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for approving the creation of the district, describing the move as an administrative response to the aspirations of residents in Eastern Ladakh.
Referring to the region’s trajectory over the past decade, the delegation pointed to improvements in infrastructure and connectivity, asserting that district status would enable more targeted planning and strengthen institutional outreach in sparsely populated and strategically located areas.
They further acknowledged the role of Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, citing recent administrative initiatives, including the issuance of district notifications, as reflective of responsive governance and a focus on decentralisation.
The interaction concluded with a call for coordinated efforts between community leaders and the administration to ensure that the creation of Changthang district translates into inclusive development and improved access to services for its residents.
